Receiving Jesus

In the first chapter of the Gospel of John we read about the coming of Jesus into the world . . .

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:9-13.

Despite his amazing miracles, outstanding teaching and divine claims, Jesus was rejected by ‘his own’, the unbelieving Jews. All four gospels in the New Testament tell the constant story of his rejection.

At first, vast crowds from all over Judea and Galilee followed him, attracted by his words and deeds. But the religious leaders hated Jesus because He was so full of the love of God, while they were full of love for themselves and their religious system. His own did not receive him—they will be left behind and replaced by the real people of God in the last days.

But not every Jew rejected him. Some received him.

To all those who did receive him, i.e., those who actually believed in him, there was a sensational result—they had the authority to be children of God. Jesus was fulfilling what the prophets had predicted . . . .

Isaiah 62:4. Never again will you be called “The Forsaken City” or “The Desolate Land.” Your new name will be “The City of God’s Delight” and “The Bride of God,” for the Lord delights in you and will claim you as his bride.

Zephaniah 3:16-17. On that day, the announcement to Jerusalem will be, “Cheer up, Zion! Don’t be afraid! For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Now let’s consider the ramifications of people receiving the authority to become “children of God”. This means to bring in a completely new people of God!

Those who received Jesus had the authority to be called people of God. But those who refused to receive Jesus do not have the right to call themselves the people of God. Here is the beginning of a new people of God altogether! The whole Gospel story is all about how Jesus’ followers have replaced those who were thought to be the people of God.

This was fulfilled by Isaiah and many Old Testament prophets, including Jeremiah 31 and Hosea . . . .

After Gomer had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she again became pregnant and gave birth to a second son. And the Lord said, “Name him Lo-ammi—‘Not my people’—for Israel is not my people, and I am not their God. “Yet the time will come when Israel’s people will be like the sands of the seashore—too many to count! Then, at the place where they were told, ‘You are not my people,’ it will be said, ‘You are children of the living God.’ Then the people of Judah and Israel will unite together. They will choose one leader for themselves, and they will return from exile together. Hosea 1:8-11.

Then Peter, quoting Hosea and writing to congregations of Jews and Gentiles, declares . . .

. . . . for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy, now you have received God’s mercy. 1 Peter:2:9-10.

Now let’s see what the gospels record about receiving Jesus. Gospel of Matthew 10:40-42 . . . . . .

“Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me. If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”

Here is the Jewish principle of the shaliach—his agent is like himself – שליח shaliach is the Hebrew word for “apostle”. It literally means “sent one”. Strongs 7971. Pronounced shuh lee akh. Plural “shlichim“.

This usage also appears in John 13:20.

I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.”

And in Luke 10:16.

Then he said to the disciples, “Anyone who accepts your message is also accepting me. And anyone who rejects you is rejecting me. And anyone who rejects me is rejecting God, who sent me.”

New Testament theologian R T France wrote: “the reception afforded Jesus’ disciples becomes the test of one’s relationship to God, as is spelt out more thoroughly in Jesus’ parable Matthew 25:31-46.”

It was a privilege for those who carry the word of God. Such acts of hospitality from the lost sheep of Israel made the preaching of the gospel possible.

This fits in perfectly with Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:37. It would have been solid comfort for the disciples under persecution. Thus comparing Matthew 10:42:

if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”

With Matthew 25:37-39:

“. . . . . “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

Note who really are the ‘least of these my brothers and sisters’ –not the disadvantaged or poor—but those who follow Jesus—see Matthew 12:27.

For us today, it is indeed a privilege to carry the word of God to others. To all of us who received him, we who actually believe in him, there is a sensational result—we have the authority to act as the children of God, his brothers and sisters.

We have the wonderful authority as his children to be his messengers and those who welcome us with the gospel will be welcoming Jesus and the Father who sent him.

Let us take that authority every day!

You Ignore My Son

“You have ignored my Word, my plan, my purpose. Above all you have ignored my Son. My Son, who has given His life for you, my Anointed One, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

You have not listened but have continued with your traditions and useless religious programmes.

You have ignored what He taught, what He demonstrated as your example, to follow Him and His lowliness.

You have ignored His way, neglected His power always available from the Holy Spirit.

What did my Son start on the earth? What did he command his followers?

Make disciples!

Instead you have trusted in what the world has to offer. How can you treat Him like this? You should be ashamed of your apathy, of your lifeless sermons, keeping your seated membership in ignorance and in straightjackets, bound up in practices I never intended.

Who told you to build ‘churches’?—that word is an abomination to me.

You give yourselves a name, an identity, a constitution, an incorporation. You build buildings and spend money on things that are perishing. You rely on money and serve it as your master when I have called this Mammon and warned you that you cannot serve me and mammon at the same time.

Like the world, you use their marketing strategies, and thus compete with rival pathetic pseudo-religious corporations. You appoint CEOs and call them ‘senior pastors’. Where is this in the teaching of my Son or in the doctrines of the apostles?

Like the world, I see jealousy, ambition, merchandise, control, titles, vainglory.

You try hard to follow me in YOUR way but not in MY way. So you end up doing it YOUR way.

You strive when my yoke is easy, my burden light. You are labouring for wages and not out of love for me.

You ignore Truth and prefer to believe lies like expecting some future rapture experience after my Son actually returned 2000 years as He promised!

And the lie that you believe about this nation you call Israel when you are the chosen race, the holy nation, My own people.

Yet I still love you even as you ignore me, as my love for you is forever and inexhaustible.”

“Why so down cast, My Beloved? As if a dark cloud of Unbelief and Fear has descended upon you.

Behold, I AM not a God who is distant or unapproachable, uninterested, or too busy to give you My full Attention.

No! I AM not deaf to your cries or blind to your needs. I AM a Loving Father who is near to those who draw near to Me.

Look! I have unlimited resources available for all My Children. I know no limitation or lack.

The Righteous will never beg for bread, but will always have more than enough. Super-abundance, awaits those who wait expectantly on Me.

See! In the midst of darkness, I AM Light! In War and Conflict, I AM Peace. In a world full of hatred and evil doers, I AM Love and I AM Good, full of tender Mercy and Loving Kindness.

In times of grief, I AM Comfort and Strength. In loneliness and isolation, My Radiant Presence is all that you need.

Beloved, My watchful Eye is always upon you, for I have hidden you from your enemies and shielded you from their vicious attacks.

Under the Shadow of My Wing, you are protected from the heat of the noonday sun and preserved from every danger that lurks in darkness.

So Lift up your head that hangs low, and look only to Me. Lean on Me, and I will be an ever-present Helper.

Even My Angels stand ready to go forth to War for you; to prepare a way for you; to level the Mountains and fill in the valleys.

Let your heart Rejoice, for the Battle is already Won and the Victory is assured!

Ha! Yes, I laugh at your enemies. Come up higher, and you will laugh at your enemies too.

You will see that those who think they are winning, are actually losing, and the gallows they have built for another, shall become the place for their own demise and destruction.

Watch! Soon and very soon, they will have enough rope for their own hanging. Who do they think they are, as if the breathe in their lungs were given to them by man?

My Heart is grieved, for the hearts of men are truly wicked, all day long. Yet in My great Mercy, I AM still mindful of them, waiting for their hearts to turn in true Repentance for their wicked deeds.

But surely I tell you, the Bowls of their Iniquity are now at a Divine Tipping Point. My patience will soon run out, and My Justice and Judgments will not be restrained forever.

Suddenly, swiftly and quickly, as if a light switch was flicked on, I shall come with My Vengeance and with My Glory, and The Spirit of The Fear of The LORD shall grip their wicked hearts, and their stiff necks shall be broken, and many will fall as dead men in their tracks.

I shall not be mocked!

Therefore Warriors, do not grow weary in your Prayers and Petitions, day and night, for My Courts are now in Session and I sit as a Righteous Judge over The Nations.

Watch! For have I not said, that in these last days I shall perform the same Miracle that I did at first?

Yes! Water shall be turned to Wine, for I AM not governed by time.

Look! A Kairos Time, for now the Archangel with the Hourglass in his hand stands before you, and The Nations of the Earth, holding the Sands of Time.

Watch and Listen, as a Divine Acceleration, Acceleration, Acceleration, begins to take place!

Watch! As I take you back to your future, Divine Reversals, as Generational Curses shall be reversed and Covenant Blessings shall be released

Nations that have been held captive shall be let go — for surely, I stand over My Word to perform it!

As I send it out, it always, always produces fruit — and fruit that shall remain.

Yes! It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Oh Beloved, if only you had a greater understanding of My Ways and My Thoughts, then you would be at Peace and great expectation would fill your hearts.

You would walk in such Power and Authority, nothing would weigh you down or distract you from the purposes for which I created you.

What time is wasted by worry and anxiety, as if the spirit of fear can change anything!

My Beloved, you need a deeper Revelation of the Perfect and Complete Love that I have for you, then, and only then, will you become unstoppable, a True Warrior who strikes fear in the heart of the enemy, and a real and present danger to the kingdom of darkness, and you will become as the Violent, who will take the kingdom by force.

Beloved, I have fashioned you for War, and made you a weapon in My great Arsenal.

As you position yourself in Me, and place your life in My Hands, fully yielded and surrendered to My Way and Will, you will live in the fullest of blessing and My highest purpose!

Will you dare to believe, that surely I have kept the best for last, and that your greatest days are before you?”

REMNANT – THIS is YOUR HOUR – A Word

Deaths, job losses, closures. We are all surrounded by tragedy
at this moment – and as we all know, the damage will go on and
on – well after the deaths decline. Livelihoods ruined, homes and
businesses gone, millions devastated and left bankrupt. Most
do not realize exactly how much has been lost.

And so we will weep with those who weep. We cannot downplay
the tragedy of what is happening here. But I have a very different
word for the Remnant of God. You know who you are.

Despite all this tragedy, to those who have been “waiting” in the
caves and the rocks and the depths of the wilderness – I say,
“Lift up your eyes.” The very season you have been waiting for
is here. Your true ministry is about to begin.

We are living in the “sudden stop.” We are living in the great ‘Reset’.
In 100 years when they speak of this era, they will speak of this
as the moment when everything changed. Like World War II, like
the Great Depression – this is the hour after which nothing will ever
be the same. And Remnant – this is the season you were built for.

I am speaking to those who have been set apart. You have allowed
yourself to be broken. You have trained yourself for battle. You
know how to preach Repentance and Conviction of sin. You have
been trained in the healing of the sick and the moving of the Holy
Spirit. You know how to baptize, to pray powerfully – and to train
others. You are a fully-equipped preacher of the true gospel.

You have used your time well. You have paid down your debt. Your
hands are free of shackles – and you’re ready to go. You have a
boldness and an audacity about you. While others shrink back,
you will jump forward. You were built for such a time as this.

Some of you 65+ will come out of retirement. Your latter years
will be much more fruitful than the former ones. The old era did
not welcome you. The new era has no choice.”Fortune favors the
brave,” goes the saying. And this has never been more true than
it is now.

While others fear – you are bold. While others play it safe – you
see this hour for what it is – and you seize the moment. Those
who shrink back will miss out. Those who are alert – and move
forward with boldness – will have the field almost to themselves.

I say to the remnant, “Lift up your eyes.” Everything has changed.
Do not confine your gaze to your own nation. Many of you will be
headed overseas. “But,” you say, “The planes are grounded. Most
nations are closed.” Yes – for now that is true. But before long
there will be travel again. And the people will be hungry for a word
from the Lord. Especially the poor.

Where once you were ignored – now you will be welcomed. Where
once you were constrained – now you will be loosed. Where
once you were disregarded – now you will be respected. “Who
dares wins.” Go forth like Joshua and take the land.

Do not be distracted. Politics is a distraction. Current events are
a distraction. Social media is a distraction. Keep your eye on the
prize – the big picture. Today’s harvest is whiter than it’s ever
been. Be alert. Watch for the doors to open and for the Lord’s
timing. Act with boldness. Seize the day.

Most of the world will be in turmoil. Most of the people will be
shrinking back. Very few will be travelling. Many churches and
businesses will be in trouble. But you will be looking around with
alert eyes – for where the Lord may send you.

Do not fear. Go forth with boldness. The former things are passed
away. Remnant – this is the hour you were built for. Don’t let it
pass you by.

“A CALL to ACTION” by Andrew Strom

Let me start with a warning. This is to be a blunt and outspoken
piece. It is deliberately designed to be a challenge to our
complacency.

The Scripture tells us that, “From the days of John the Baptist
until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and
the VIOLENT take it by force.” So why is it that so many of
us are passive and nullified by a kind of ‘fatalism’ that declares
“Whatever will be will be”? That is not true Christianity. True
Christianity has always been WAR and battle for the souls of men.

I have been guilty of this “fatalism” myself. And there are
some on this List who have been “waiting” for so long that
to get out of their peace-time mode would takes a lightning
bolt and a shaking far beyond what is healthy. I find it sad
that it is not just the CHURCHES that need a good “shake”
but some of us so-called ‘Revival’ types as well! There are
some here who are about as “violent” as marshmallows. It
is high time for that to change.

To those who say that we should still be in “waiting”
mode, I pose this simple question: When does the ‘wait’
end? When entire generations have been lost? When
millions upon millions sitting in our churches are
eternally ruined? Is the devil to “take the youngest” forever?

I love the Scripture from the story of David and Goliath
that says, “And David spoke to the men that stood near
him, saying, What shall be done to the man who kills
this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel?
For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should
defy the armies of the Living God?” (1 Sam 17:26). And
the record tells us that with no armour and with 5 smooth
stones as his only weapon, David RAN FULL-TILT towards
that Philistine, to see His God avenged and his people’s
reproach removed.

We hear a lot about people with “a heart like David” in
these last days. Let me tell you – David was a man of
WAR. A man of action. He would not put up with His God
being put to an open shame. I wonder where the Lord will
find His “Davids” today?

We live in one of the darkest hours in the history of our
planet. “As it was in the days of Noah and Lot” declares
the Scripture, and so it rapidly becomes. So where is
the light shining in this darkness? Is it you? Is it me?
Or do we slumber on?

Some of us have been “waiting” for 20 years for the
right time. Are we never to act at all? Do we just float
on, excusing our lack of urgency and burden with the
trite reply that we are “waiting on the Lord”? Will such
feeble reasonings ever find a hearing in the courts of God?

There is a battle raging. It has never ceased. It is the
battle for the hearts and souls of men. Let the
“spectators” and idle onlookers clear the field. Let those
without courage or urgency or burden retire from the
scene. It is time for God’s “mighty men of valor” to come
forth. The hour is late and the time will soon arrive when
no man can work. “In season and out of season” said
Paul, and it is time for us to heed his words. If ever there
was an hour for the “Gideon’s 300” it is now.

Years ago God spoke these words to me: “WHO DARES
WINS”. It is not enough to simply pray. For many have
prayed and yet not taken the kingdom. And neither is it
enough to prophesy. For many have brought endless
“words” and yet the kingdom remains undisturbed. The
phrase “Who DARES Wins” is the motto of the British
SAS – men of action who operate behind enemy lines
and who revel in courage and fighting spirit. So it will
be with the end-times servants of God.

If you don’t have the stomach for it, hang back and do
nothing. Nobody will notice.

But let those who have been prepared of God in the caves and
the deserts come forth. You have awaited a trumpet blast.
Do you not hear it?

Gird up your loins, you mighty men. Prepare for war.
Arm of the Living God, put on strength! The Lord is about to
arise and scatter His enemies. Can you not sense it?

Let the modern John-the-Baptists come forth.

At the Gate of Something Great!

There is a fierce battle that is raging over your testimony and destiny in this hour!

But I hear the Father say, “MIGHTY Warriors FEAR NOT, take courage and stand your ground. Do not retreat. It’s time to raise the sword and shield and dig your heels in deeper!”

Listen, the greater the impact of God’s power on the earth, the greater the onslaught of darkness and wickedness will be.

I see the fiery darts of fear, frustration, discouragement, despair and death flying by day and by night.

Satan is waging war over the testimony and destiny of many believers in this hour.

The enemy’s goal and agenda in this season is to distort, derail and destroy the faith, hope and expectation of God’s people.

Satan’s strategy is to divert our attention and indeed our affections away from the Father. He comes to distinguish our passion and our pursuits for the Kingdom of God.

Satan is coming to weaken the witness of the son’s of God and cause us to retreat into places of obscurity and isolation.

I hear the Spirit say, “Warriors stand still, and do not be moved, for I have called and anointed you to guard.

Stand and defend the ground that you are standing on.

Watch, for even now, My Spirit of power, strength and might comes to enable, empower and sustain you in the midst of this battle.

Beloved, trust in My Power to prevail and in My Wisdom to win. Now is the time for you to take the land that I have given you.

Do not give in, do not give up, do not look back, and do not be afraid, son/ daughter!

You must stand and be still, greater is He that is with you than He that comes against you in this hour.

Now is the time to raise the sword and shield and dig your heels in deeper.

Warriors, fear not, for My salvation and justice comes quickly,” says God.

I Declare! Yes, it is time for me to dig deeper and defend the ground of destiny.

While praying for many of you this morning, The Holy Spirit quickened this story to me;

“And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils: and the people fled from the Philistines.
But he stood still in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory,” 2 Samuel 23:11-12.

Here is what I hear Father saying to us today, in this Word, we see that Shammah wouldn’t move!

He stood his ground in the midst of the lentil field and would not give in, even though he was greatly outmatched and outnumbered.

It looked like an impossible situation, but this one man dug his heels in deeper and stood still against a troop of mighty soldiers .

Shammah guarded that piece of ground, he did not stand alone but he stood empowered by the Spirit of God, and he defended his ground.

Now what if he had given into the spirit of fear and fled the field? Well the enemy would have come in and taken hold of his testimony and his kingdom destiny.

Shammah was a man who knew the power of God. He did not shrink back, he did not run and hide, he did not give up, he did not look back but he stood his ground and looked straight into the face of great opposition and the LORD wrought a great victory. Hallelujah!

I Decree: In this season, I AM AT THE GATE OF SOMETHING GREAT, I will not shrink back, but I will stand my ground. I will lift my sword and shield and dig my heels in deeper to defend my field. I am prepared and positioned for a great victory!

CONVERSATION WITH LIAM

Met Liam a few days ago and spoke with him while he was checking out my shopping and filling bags at the supermarket.

I overheard him tell the shopper who preceded me that he was looking forward to his big trip overseas.

Liam is a likable young man, happy to talk to customers—a real asset to his employers.

As we locked eyes, I spoke “so you’re looking forward to your big trip?

Yep.

Bet you’re excited.

Sure am.

How soon?

About 3 months and I can hardly wait.

Though of course in the total of our understanding of time, it’s very short.

Yes, sometimes time is not our friend.

So I said : I am also looking forward to the trip of a lifetime. And boy am I excited about it!

Oooh, where ya’ going?

Goin’ to Heaven!

Oooh! not so soon surely! he said smiling, trying to guess my age.

Well as you said a few seconds ago, in the total of our understanding of time, it’s very short.

So where are you heading ultimately? Heaven or the other place?

Oh I hope I go to the good place.

Liam, do you know who will go there, who will make the good place?

Hmmm not sure.

Well, it says that those who love God their Creator, and listen to his son Jesus for their salvation, will be looking forward to it and will be at home there.

Those who don’t want God as Jesus revealed him, will not be at home there, will be judged (who hasn’t sinned?) and be located to Hell, whatever that is like. Not good by Jesus’ reckoning. To be avoided at all costs.

Do you think about that?

Yes. I know about that (maybe good Catholic upbringing)

But have you thought seriously about it?

I know about it. But I havn’t really considered it.

Please consider. Please don’t put it off.

We parted friends, Liam and I, shopping bags packed.

True Faith or Blind faith

“I have no need of redemption.” someone bluntly told me recently.

Well, that’s exactly what I used to say. Now I can say it with some conviction because my redemption is a fact, though I cannot prove this to anyone. But there is some evidence.

My angry correspondent remarked “Unlike your god, there is a wealth of evidence from a variety of sources that you exist. Even in the absence of thought about you, you continue to be.”

I am flattered.

However denial of our Creator’s existence is common, yet he continues to exist and to sustain us all and the whole universe despite my correspondent’s affirmation of blind faith in his absence. Dismissal of belief in God won’t make him go away. You may not believe in him but he believes in you.

My trust in God is based on evidence. And I think there is a wealth of evidence from a variety of sources that God exists.

You want evidence? Writers like Richard Dawkins (are you one of his disciples?) consistently refuse to examine the available evidence which is freely available to anyone who wants it. I think there is also ample evidence that followers of Dawkins and the so-called ‘new atheists’ put their faith in their remarks without properly examining their arguments, a sort of religious faith which like a lot of other religious faith is not based on demonstrable evidence. It is “blind faith”.

The whole point of my post I made about a month ago was to reject “blind faith” and call for faith based on evidence and I gave several examples of this in everyday life. More. I believe the sun will “set” tonight and “rise” in the morning. Now this is not proof, note, but it is evidence. I cannot prove the sun will “move” in this way. I cannot prove that my wife truly loves me but I have really good evidence that she does.

There is no point in going to my dentist if there is no good evidence that he is competent. There is no point in setting out on a journey to a certain place if I don’t have evidence that it exists.

So my point is belief in the absence of evidence is not the sort of faith demanded by the Hebrew prophets and sages. True faith cannot ‘allow me to adopt a set of beliefs that make absolutely no sense.’ Neither does any ‘level of piety that I might exhibit in believing something, count for anything.’ I cannot pull myself up with my bootstraps (that’s why I needed redemption) yet that’s what at least some atheists think how the universe began! Blind faith. Come on.

Let’s think about this. You may judge me of denying reality. But do you know all there is to know about everything that is reality? If you think you do then you are claiming omniscience. Blind faith again. If you don’t then you should not be so sure of your presuppositions. Is it not possible that you are mistaken and I have discovered something that has changed my world view radically?

When we cannot face up to reality we take a leap of faith in the dark into some metaphysical idea. Blind faith. Now that is ‘an abdication from reality, an act of self hypnosis, a cowardly cop-out.’ But reality presents us with many questions.

Can one believe in love without evidence? Is love among human beings provable? Where does ‘love’ come from? Is it real, or just some chemical reaction in our brains? Why is there anything at all and not just nothing? Why do we exist? Why is there this particular set of natural laws and not some other? What is the nature of reality and how can it be measured? Why does our world provide just the right sets of conditions (numbering dozens of fine-tuning conditions) for life? Where did all this come from? Where did the minute bacterial flagellum come from –with millions of these tiny machines in every cell in your body?

Can my reader answer these questions? Well I think I can. And it’s called reality with the evidence that is available. Exciting stuff.
